About Us

The Pilates Center was founded in Boulder in 1990 by sisters Amy Taylor Alpers and Rachel Taylor Segel. The sisters trained under Romana Kryzanowska, Joseph Pilates’ protégé, and starting The Pilates Center was their way to foster the legacy and tradition of the original, classical method of Pilates founded by Joseph Pilates. While many teacher training programs have diverged from this original method, The Pilates Center has stayed committed to maintaining the powerful integrity and originality of this work over the last thirty years.

We believe in sharing our understanding and knowledge of the Pilates method in a nurturing way and from a humanistic perspective with our clients, students, graduates, and teachers.

Our Mission

At The Pilates Center, we teach the original Pilates method to empower people to transform their health and Return to Life.

Our Values

  • We believe that Pilates is a comprehensive system of exercise that must be taught in its entirety in order to reap the full benefits.
  • We believe that Pilates instructors teachers should be knowledgeable about equipment and exercises as they are integrally tied together.
  • We believe that the cultivation of a healthy body, mind, and spirit can have a profoundly positive effect on the world.
  • We believe incorporating a humanistic and person-centered approach to our Pilates teaching in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment.

Meet Our Teachers and Staff

Amy Taylor Alpers and Rachel Taylor Segel have played an integral role over the last three decades in teaching The Pilates Center’s teachers and staff the original Pilates method founded by Joseph Pilates. Every TPC staff member has also completed the Advanced Teacher Training program and can perform up to the advanced work and higher.

Each of our teachers believes in teaching from a place of intention and providing a nurturing space for learning and growth so that students can start, continue, or advance their practice and find wholeness and healing. We meet our students where they are and support them in cultivating a Pilates practice that promotes a healthy mind and body connection.
