Defy Gravity – the IntenSion of Suspension

Haven’t you ever dreamed of feeling weightless? Pilates has the potential to sensitize you to the body’s own anti-gravity system – helping you to do just that. Utilizing the profound natural laws of movement, we can learn to use and teach movement in a suspension field (tensegrity) of amazing bones cables and fluids to develop the strongest, lightest, most powerful body possible. Utilizing Pilates Mat exercises, we will explore methods of reconnecting to the innate ‘tensegrity’ in our bodies – a way of following nature’s design to achieve more results with less effort.

Instructor Bio

Amy Taylor Alpers – studied Pilates under the direct tutelage of Romana Kryzanowska at the original Pilates Studio in New York City. She received her Pilates teaching certificate from there in July of 1989. In 1990, after moving to Boulder, Colorado, Amy and her sister, Rachel, founded The Pilates Center. The sisters then created and established The Pilates Center Teacher Training Program in 1991. The school has since expanded to include an Intermediate Program, Advanced Program, Bridge Program, Master’s Program, and a Mentorship Program.  Before Pilates, Amy was a professional ballet dancer, and trained at The Juilliard School for Dance. She taught ballet in New York City for ten years before launching her Pilates career.  When not traveling the world to teach both foundational and graduate level Pilates teacher education, you can find Amy at The Pilates Center mentoring advanced teachers, teaching classes and privately to clients.
