The Archival Program Weekend I
This 36-hour program comprises two weekends over the course of one year. In addition to the two weekends, which can be attended live or online, each participant will have two per-weekend in-person (or Zoom) meetings to follow up, review, and ask questions. You will receive a certificate of completion at the end of your program.
April 10-12, 2025 |Mat and Reformer Series|
October 2-4, 2025 |Chair & Cadillac Series|
Amy Taylor Alpers, Kelli Burkhalter Hutchins, and Kaile Ziemba will be leading The Archival Program. The material is taken wholly from archival film footage and photography of Joseph Pilates teaching in the early 1940s. The subtle alterations and variations in form and choreography revealed in this historic document provide valuable “new” insights into the purpose and goal of many of the exercises we do today.
In April, on Thursday, we will focus on Mat. Friday and Saturday will be on the Reformer. We will discuss the differences between the archival vs. the classical repertoire learned from Romana, focusing on how to teach the exercises and add them to everyone’s daily teaching.
These archival exercises have deeply inspired and expanded our understanding of the true value of the Pilates method. Slight tweaks to the extant exercises powerfully reveal and clarify his intention and, thereby, help the practitioner better focus on the intended objective. Rhythm and dynamic emphasis are accentuated, and consequently, muscle power – especially in the upper body – is heightened.
You will receive access to archival videos during the program, The Lost Treasures Workbook, and zoom recordings for 30 days.
