What to Look for in a Pilates Teacher

When you’re getting started with or continuing your Pilates practice, you want to make sure that you’re working with the right Pilates teacher for you. Pilates is a full-body workout that promotes a mind-body connection and increases your body awareness, so it’s important to find a Pilates teacher who understands how Pilates can benefit your overall physical health and mental well-being so you can feel more empowered, confident, and mindful.

While looking for a Pilates teacher, here are a few factors you want to consider:

  • What do their Pilates education and experience look like?
  • Do they teach the original, classical method of Pilates?
  • Do they work to accommodate different learning styles?
  • Are they excited and passionate about teaching Pilates?

At The Pilates Center, our Pilates teachers, many of whom have gone through our teacher training, practice and teach the original Pilates Method founded by Joseph Pilates. While all of our Pilates teachers have unique and distinct voices when it comes to how they teach, every teacher is focused on providing a nurturing and safe space for students to learn. Our approach at The Pilates Center is one that is humanistic and person-centered so that we can be adaptable and help our students learn and grow in ways that work best for them.

Our Pilates teachers all teach from a place of intention and are focused on education, collaboration, and meeting students where they are. For example, a teacher will show you how to perform a specific movement by explaining it, so that you’re learning as you move. It’s in this spirit that we’re able to cultivate a Pilates practice that promotes a healthy mind and body connection. And our Pilates teachers couldn’t be more excited about helping students start, continue, or advance their practice and find wholeness, health, happiness, and healing.
