Looking at our daily routines, we spend a lot of time moving forward. Therefore, it only makes sense to be hesitant about moving our bodies in the opposite direction.
Among other physical benefits, backbends stimulate the central nervous system, boost the immune system, and realign and increase mobility in the spinal column. Psychologically, backbends teach us to be more patient with ourselves and offer valuable lessons such as discipline and care.
In this workshop, we will learn the fundamental proper alignment techniques to incorporate into a variety of back bending Pilates exercises. We will go through Pilates exercises that warm up the body initially using elements of the Mat Work with emphasis on Swan to help create front body opening and cultivate awareness of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. We will practice teach and perform various extension Pilates exercises on the mat and equipment.
